Rip It Up Magazine - Beyond Human Review

This Auckland four piece do not specialise in subtleties as opening track 'Beyond Human' well illustrates. Its instant crush will take your breath away and then pummel your guts with its machine gun kick-drums. To call this album a bombardment of solid metal would be an understatement; it's rabid, throat-ripping metal action from start to finish. It's the CD equivalent of a vicious home invasion. Matt Sheppard's vocal attack is two steps beyond what he achieved vocally on 8 Foot Sativa's 'Breed the Pain' album and that was nothing short of brilliant. He growls, shrieks and screams the venomous lyrics with a determination that grabs your attention immediately. The tight arrangements and mint production set this up easily against any big-label metal album you may have just had in your CD player. Recorded and mixed at York Street Studios in Auckland with Steve Roberts, 'Beyond Human' has real bite, depth and substance in the mix. 'Step Out Of The Light' is pure bonecruncher. 'One Day Closer', my personal fave, is staggered with mean-ass riffs and chained up with a supercharged kick attack drum line. The vocals are torn straight from a sick, sick place giving its fatalistic message even more power. 'King Of Betrayal' and 'The Last War'? Sheer shred-heaven 'brilliance. Well written, awesomely executed and produced and wrapped in horrorshow artwork! Forget the seven deadly sins; Sinate is where it gets serious. A must for every metaller.
